The original Nectar mattress is the company’s flagship and most popular and affordable mattress. It’s pressure-relieving, yet supportive. It’s made with a thick layer of gel memory foam which has a doughy feel and allows the sleeper to sink into its surface.
To help you find out if the Nectar is right for your specific needs, our team tested this bed for factors such as firmness, pressure relief, motion transfer, and edge support. By the end of this Nectar mattress review, you should know if it’s the bed of your dreams.
Is the Nectar Mattress Good for You?
Before we dig into this review, I’d like to share some of the basic characteristics about the Nectar and who it’s best for. Depending on your body weight, preferred sleeping position, and whether or not you sleep with a partner or pet, this mattress may or may not work for you.
Who I recommend the Nectar mattress for:
- Memory foam lovers should be happy on the Nectar. This bed has a classic memory foam feel, so there’s lots of sinkage, contouring, and pressure relief. This can be great for anyone with shoulder pain or hip pain since it gives them cushioning at sensitive pressure points.
- I think back sleepers and side sleepers would be happy on this bed. They’ll get some nice sinkage as it conforms to their bodies, but not so much that they feel trapped in the mattress.
- The Nectar comes at an affordable price, making it a great choice for budget-savvy shoppers.
Who I don’t recommend the Nectar mattress for:
- I don’t think the Nectar is firm enough for stomach sleepers, especially those weighing more than 130 pounds. Stomach sleepers need a firm mattress to keep their hips in line with their shoulders. If that’s you, I’d recommend checking out one of our best mattresses for stomach sleepers.
- Although there are some cooling components in the Nectar, I think hot sleepers may want added cooling materials. You can take a look at some of our favorite beds for hot sleepers.
- Anyone looking for a bouncy mattress may not be satisfied with the Nectar. I’d recommend looking for a hybrid mattress or latex mattress instead, since they tend to have more bounce. If you think this fits your needs more, check out our best hybrid mattress and best latex mattress roundups.
How Firm is the Nectar Mattress?
When I talk about feel, I like to start with firmness, because it’s likely to give you the best idea of how you’ll experience the mattress.
It’s important to highlight that firmness is subjective, and my opinion might be totally different from yours. To get a better general idea of firmness, I polled a range of folks in the office and we settled on a firmness level rating together.
Nectar Mattress Performance
Whether or not you find a mattress comfortable depends on factors like your body weight, whether or not you share a bed, your preferred sleeping position, and more. To help you decide if the Nectar meets your needs, I’ve run it through a few different tests for things like pain relief and support. Read on below to see how the Nectar performed in several different sleep need categories.
Testing the Nectar Mattress in Different Sleeping Positions
A mattress will feel different depending on your body weight and preferred sleeping position. Take a look below to see how the Nectar works for several different body types.
Is the Nectar Mattress Good for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should feel comfortable on the Nectar. It offers a great blend of firmness and support for these folks, and it should feel like a firm mattress in this position.
- Light Side Sleepers – Lighter side sleepers might find the Nectar a bit too firm for their needs, because they won’t sink through its layers of memory foam as far as the average person. They might prefer one of our favorite soft mattresses instead.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – Lighter weight stomach sleepers might be okay on the Nectar. But in general, I’d steer stomach sleepers towards innerspring mattresses or firm mattresses that don’t allow much sinkage. Too much sinkage can throw their hips out of alignment with their shoulders, which can lead to back pain over time.
Is the Nectar Mattress Good for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – Average weight back sleepers should like the Nectar. It should offer some nice body contouring at the lower back.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I think average weight side sleepers should like this mattress, since it’s built for them. It should offer these folks plenty of deep body contouring and pressure relief.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The Nectar will be too soft for these sleepers. I’d recommend one of our best mattresses for stomach sleepers instead.
Nectar Mattress Pain Relief Performance
If you struggle with pain, it’s important to find a mattress offering a blend of pressure relief and support. Pressure relief refers to how well a mattress alleviates tension at sensitive pressure points commonly found at the hips, shoulders, and lower back. I like to measure a bed’s pressure relief to determine how well it will relieve pain in these areas.
To test the Nectar’s pressure relieving abilities, I used a pressure map. I lay the pressure map on the Nectar and hopped on. The map then recorded how much pressure my body exerted on the mattress while laying on my side, stomach, and back. The map turns blue to green for low pressure, and orange to red for high pressure. The results help me determine how well the bed will relieve pain in certain areas.
