Several TQE editors have made cross-country moves or cohabitation leaps within the past few months, and we all agree: furnishing a new place is hard. The function-meets-style bullseye is nearly impossible to strike – but your everyday furniture deserves to be both. Throw in name brand prices and insane shipping lead times, and a very barren living room can start to feel like home. Mine steadily creeped in that direction for months before I discovered Albany Park.
Created for indecisive online shoppers on a budget (aka me), Albany Park has streamlined and beautified the sofa, sectional, and armchair shopping experience in a very big way (last year the brand did $45M in sales). Albany Park has created an award-winning end-to-end shopping experience for living room staples, leaving you with inspiration and excitement to complete a space you love.
A Simple Idea…
Former NFL linebacker Darryl Sharpton and his wife Jessica Sharpton founded Albany Park after a frustrating furniture shopping experience at a traditional retailer. The pair spent years building and perfecting Edloe Finch, Albany Park’s parent company, before launching Albany Park in 2019. Their goal was to create fewer, better-made offerings that could ship to your door quickly and efficiently – no decision fatigue, crazy markups, or months-long lead times involved.
While I am all for a minimalist approach to just about everything I do and buy, the concept of Albany Park’s three streamlined shapes seemed suspicious in theory. Most furniture brands’ homerun-to-hideous odds aren’t exactly favorable (sorry, but you agree), so I was stunned by Albany Park’s three beautiful, runaway-hit collections: The Albany Collection (a simple, sleek, and classic silhouette), The Park Collection (a loungey, relaxed collection), and The Kova Collection (a line with a fluffy, cloud-couch vibe). Each collection features a sofa, sectional sofa, loveseat, and armchair in its style, and your selection is customizable: choose your fabric (ranging from a selection of colorful velvets to distressed vegan leather, and boucle depending on the style) and leg color (gold, walnut, or black) for a piece that fits your space and vibe.
The DTC Treatment
Beyond beautiful design, Albany Park is the DTC furniture dream. The brand’s curated selection is packaged and shipped with intention: shipping and delivery are fast and free (the Park Armchair, for instance, can be shipped within 4 business days at the time of writing), and each space-conscious box is carefully designed to maneuver through stairwells, hallways, and other apartment pitfalls. Each sofa, sectional, and armchair is freakishly easy to assemble (the brand boasts a 15 minute assembly time, max) before your 30 day home trial begins.
The best part (yes, it gets better) is that Albany Park’s quality pieces (made of hardwood frames, high end fabrics, and premium foam and leather cushioning) are half of the price of competitors. The brand’s streamlined model creates cost-savings that shoppers benefit from directly. And, if the furniture you’ve been eyeing is still slightly out of your price range, the brand works with Affirm so you can pay for your piece over time.
Relaxing In Style
Albany Park was kind enough to send me a Park Armchair ($795) to compliment and complete the apartment I moved into almost a year ago. I chose a distressed vegan leather with gold legs. Due to inventory, my chair shipped within 10 days (as I mentioned before, pieces often ship within just a few days) and was delivered to my apartment door in one very manageable box. From there, the assembly process took a matter of minutes with no trouble at all (and I often have a lot of trouble with even the smallest of assemblies).
The chair is stunning, statement-making, and cozy-up-and-read comfortable. More than one friend has walked into my place and proclaimed, “This is going to be my chair when I come over now.” It’s like your dad’s signature armchair, only so stylish and well-structured that your mother would certainly approve.
