Part of my journey toward a more sustainable lifestyle has been making big changes in my wardrobe: owning fewer pieces, investing in higher quality items, making smarter choices in materials, and trying to support more sustainable brands. I recently discovered Organic Basics and am excited to share a look at this company and some of their pieces with you today (including a video below!)

Organic Basics is a sustainable and ethical clothing brand from Denmark that makes high-quality, eco-friendly basics for men and for women: t-shirts, turtlenecks, leggings, active wear, dresses, scarves, and undergarments including tanks, bodysuits, bras, and briefs.

They practice what they preach with an impressive list of sustainable features:

  • — a certified B-Corp

  • — part of the 1% for the Planet initiative

  • — use low-waste shipping materials (i.e. no plastic)

  • — carbon offsetting for every purchase (CO2 neutral shipping)

  • — certified factories that use sustainable & ethical practices

  • — sustainable fabrics, including recycled fibers and TENCEL

  • — a low-impact website

  • And a welcome bonus: they use diverse models who represent various sizes, ethnicities and styles.

Organic Basics

I tried out their TENCEL line of undergarments and can tell you that the hype about this fabric is deserved. Here’s more about this sustainable material:

TENCEL™ & sustainability:

TENCEL™ fibers are made from wood pulp that’s sustainably sourced and then produced with an environmentally responsible process that uses resources efficiently. And the fabric is totally biodegradable, unlike synthetic fibers like rayon and nylon that are so often used to make soft undergarments.

TENCEL™ & how it feels on:

It is incredibly soft and comfortable! I love this choice for undergarments because of its durability paired with silky softness. It’s a sturdy fabric that’s not going to wear out while also feeling so light and soft. The TENCEL™ website also claims that it has excellent breathability, color retention and moisture management.

TENCEL™ Lite Singlet

organic basics

I love having a few base layers like this singlet in my wardrobe. I wear them almost daily in the cooler months for extra warmth and under dresses for extra coverage. In the past, I’d get them at Target but noticed they wore out due to the low quality of the fabric. That’s why I was so excited to try this — it’s a super soft, durable base layer that I know I’ll use throughout the year. Did I say that it’s super soft? Really, it feels incredible!

This singlet fits true to size but is fitted, so size up if you’re between sizes. It comes in black, dusty rose, cloudy blue and white.

TENCEL™ Lite Bralette

organic basics

The TENCEL™ Lite Bralette is their classic triangle shaped bra in soft and breathable TENCEL™. I love the look of this bra with the cutout on the bottom. Like the other pieces in this fabric, it’s wonderfully soft and silky.

I opted for the dusty rose color to have something similar to a nude tone, but since I ordered, they’ve released a few new colors. Available in black, cloudy blue, dusty rose, white, and three new colors: soft pink, ochre, and navy.

The fit: This was tricky for me because based on the size chart, I was in between sizes, so I went with the smaller size, and unfortunately, it’s too small. It is very comfortable to wear around the house but there’s not enough coverage for me to wear it out (i.e. my boobs were popping out of the cups). I should have sized up.

That being said, this bra is quite supportive despite not having underwire and has fully adjustable straps, which is necessary for people like me who have smaller frames.

TENCEL™ Lite Briefs 2-pack

organic basics

The TENCEL™ briefs are their classic bikini briefs. Like the other items, the fabric feels amazing on — so soft and comfortable! The band is stretchy but it didn’t come up as high on me as is shown on the model, probably because they were a little small. Note that you should size up if between sizes!

These briefs are great for everyday wear, but I’d like to try their invisible line because I usually prefer a seamless style.

Sizes XS-XL. Available in black, cloudy blue, dusty rose, white and three new colors: navy, ochre and light pink.

Starter packs

Organic Basics offers a variety of starter packs to bundle and save. Here are two featuring the above products:

The Starter Pack Lite Bralette features a TENCEL™ Lite Bralette and two pairs of TENCEL™ Lite Briefs or TENCEL™ Lite Tangas. Buying them as a pack saves you $22.

And the TENCEL™ Starter Pack features a TENCEL™ Lite Singlet or Lite Tank and two pairs of TENCEL™ Lite Briefs. Buying them as a pack saves you $20.

The verdict?

Organic Basics ticks all the boxes for a sustainable, ethical company that I feel happy to support.

Singlet: Yes! This is a well-made basic that’s elevated by the softness and comfort of the fabric.

Bralette: I love the look of this piece. It’s well-made, soft, and supportive, but it may not work for those with a larger cup size and small frame. Size up if between sizes.

Briefs: Yes, these are well-made, soft basics. Size up.

What’s next?

I think their TENCEL long sleeve turtleneck must feel like heaven on. Check out my Organic Basics leggings review of their SilverTech leggings, and coming soon, organic cotton tees for fall.
